About ArtReach

Art Reach Dance Community is a small, tight-knit dance studio that always welcomes new participants of all ages and experience levels. The studio is located in the artistic and inspiring area of Refshaleøen, Copenhagen.
Art Reach offers dance classes within the field of theatrical dance- Jazz, contemporary, ballet, lyrical, heels + classes in body conditioning and stretch and placement. The classes are open and you can join at any time during the year.
There is also the opportunity to book private classes - separate or as part of an individually structured program.
The studio is led by Jenny Major, who also teaches the classes. Jenny has 28 years of experience in teaching, choreographing and performing.

Art Reach also offers workshops with guest teachers, lectures in dance history and creative sessions indoors and outdoors. The location is both raw and industrial as well as close to nature which makes it ideal for site-specific research. The facilities are shared with Metropolis KBH, which calls for an artistic atmosphere and access to works-in-progress platforms and performances.
The studio also works in a spirit of social consciousness and frequently offers donation classes for various causes as well as opportunities for actions of solidarity for people in need.
Dance is a strong tool of communication and expression and has many benefits for the individual, the group and society. Through the practice we get stronger and more skilled, we have fun and we learn about ourselves and we do it together. Dance is life.

The classes are designed to give an overall physical workout, increased technical ability and to be expressive and have fun with choreography at the end of the class. The classes are divided into levels so that everyone has the chance to develop according to the level that they are at. If you are insecure about what level suits you, just try the one that fits your schedule best and talk to Jenny after.

Modern/contemporary
The focus of the class is to embrace as much of the modern/contemporary field as possible. We do a thorough warm up with choreographed exercises, improvisation, flow, floorwork and stretch. The second half of the class is dedicated to choreography where we let different kinds of music and expressions inspire us. The choreography is changed every 3 weeks.

Jazz
In jazz the focus lies on strong technique and musicality. The warm up contains isolations, back exercises, foot and legwork, stretch and strength. The warm up is followed by exercises across the floor and choreography. The choreographies embrace different styles of jazzdance- classic jazz, musical theatre, lyrical, commercial.. The choreography is changed every 3 weeks.

Ballet
Ballet is an amazing way to build strength that you can use in other styles as well as enjoy it in the class. The technique builds the strength and knowledge you need for turns, pirouettes and leaps and trains your musicality.
The class starts with exercises at the barre followed by stretch and exercises on the floor. We work on correct placement and development of technique but we also enjoy and allow our selves to feel like ballet dancers. The class also involves use of space and formations. In the beginners level classes we learn the vocabulary and the intent behind each exercise.

Lyrical jazz
Lyrical is a soft version of jazz. It can also be seen as a combination of jazz and contemporary. It is an expressive form of dance and the music of choice is often soft with strong expression of the lyrics. A long and dynamic warm up with a bit more floorwork is followed by choreography where we emphasize the words in the song and what the lyrics express.

Graham inspired modern
This class focuses on the technique created by Martha Graham (1894-1991).The technique is one of the first techniques created to train the body for contemporary dance and focuses on floorwork and articulation of the torso. It is dramatic and expressive and very effective in building core strength. The class starts with exercises on the floor, followed by standing exercises and across the floor.

Stretch and placement
These are open level classes and can be joined by anyone regardless of previous practice, age and physical ability. The goal of the class is to reset and recharge the body through soft stretching and strengthening exercises. The exercises are performed to soft music on yoga mats. The aim of the classes is the same every time but the exercises are various and adapts to the needs of the group on the day. The studio has yoga mats at your disposal.

Deep stretching
This is a class for you who want to work on flexibility for higher extensions, splits and so on. After a short warm up we will start with general stretch and placement and then work deeper into the bigger muscle groups. We do the exercises on yogamats and at the barre. We finish with relaxation. Not suitable for beginners.

Individual Programs

The individual training program is an opportunity to train more intensively and structured through a schedule you develop in communication with Jenny. A combination of private classes and coaching sessions in combination with participation in the open classes allows faster development and understanding of technique and physical development. You decide for yourself how much time you like to invest and the number of classes are scheduled accordingly. Classes can be added/deducted throughout the season to suit your needs. The focus of the private classes/coaching sessions is also adapted according to what you wish to work towards.
So far the individual programs have covered:

- Strengthening of technique and physique of performance artists and actors

- Branching over from urban dance styles to musical theater and contemporary dance

- Rebuilding technique and confidence after a long break from dance

- Exploring contemporary dance as an adult absolute beginner
